A persuasive letter from Holly (Y2)
How about this for a FANTASTIC piece of persuasive writing...
Let Holly know what you think, is this a scoop investigation for our Press Pack?
What do YOU think we should do about Holly's worries?

Parental Questionnaire
Thank you to all those families who were able to return a completed questionnaire this week. We are delighted with the level of trust, your responses suggest, you have in how hard we work and how we care about every child in our school.
There were a couple of concerns expressed - as ever I would invite any parent wishing to talk further about points raised, to make an appointment to come and see me.
Here are the results in detail:-
Wow - lots of answers sent to website about the 'septuplets' - I'm being crafty though and not publishing them until Monday morning! Not that ANY of you would be sneaky enough to copy other pupils answers!!!
All answers sent in have been correct so WELL DONE to Anna, Lucy, Max, Oliver, Holly and Jack!

As mentioned in last weeks Heroes Assembly, we have a fantastic group of Y5 children who have 'asked' if they can volunteer some of their breaktimes to help out on the infant yard.
They will be wearing BLUE CAPS and are happy to create games for younger children to join - or simply have a sit and a natter if needed!
This visual timetable shows which of the Playground Buddies are available during each breaktime.
What a credit they are...
as it says on the badge...

After many weeks of planning we have now selected the first members of our Press Pack. There was lots of interest so we decided to select eight children to train up this term, before opening it up to a new group of intrepid reporters during the summer term.
Our aim is to work with the expert guidance of Ms. Cornish, to establish groups of Press Pack children who will be self sufficient in identifying a story, researching it and presenting their findings on this website for the WHOLE WORLD to see!
We will also bee producing a monthly newsletter (for a bargain price) to share the 'pupil view' of life at High Spen Primary School.
If you have a story which you'd like the Press Pack to investigate, why not e-mail them at their private address - presspack.highspen@gmail.com
Mr Firth
We've heard it all before (well I have because my Dad says it every time I see him!)...
'9am starts, 3.15pm finishes and 'training days' just another days holidays aren't they?'
Well how about a few 'action' shots from our most recent training day, showing members of our school community coming together to thrash out what we are aiming to do for children, parents, staff, Governors and others in our community.
It was an excelent session with representation from Teaching Staff, Admin Staff, PTFA and Governors. What a lot of hot air we created!
Thanks to all,
Mr Firth

P.T.F.A - A.G.M Update
Due to some concerns about equitable opportunity to vote in next Friday's A.G.M we will be sending out a parental ballot form to each family next week.
The closing date for nominations for Chair, Vice Chair, Secretary and Treasurer is Wednesday 12th October 2011.
Sorry about the wait for the final installment but my home internet was as slow as it was in Alston! DVD and photos are now in the publishing stage.
Anyway, the activities on the last day mostly involved getting wet or avoiding getting wet!

Not just photographs from Mrs Barron and Mr Cradock tonight... they sent a blow by blow diary of the day!
DRAGON QUEST 1 and 2- Straight after breakfast, we had to put our puzzle heads on to solve the 'Dragon's quest'. This involved good thinking and communication.
DRAGON QUEST 3 - we all tried really hard to pull the sword from the stone but it turns out none of us are worth enough as knights and ladies.
CAVING - we all found our way out - didn't lose anyone!
ABSAILING - Everyone was great. They listened to the advice and have been told to look for a local club to get involved in.
OLIVERS FAVOURITE TOWEL - tell Roger I am sorry as could not persuade him to give the towel to the girls, hopefully he is not bringing it home!
PIRANHA POOL - another problem solving task with a twist. You have to get out in time before the piranha's need feeding otherwise you may get nipped. As you can see we all survived!
ARCHERY MARTIN - one of the best shots of the evening. Kept his eye on the target.
GIANT SWING - completed in the dark so hoping the video footage will come out well.
Delighted to say all is well at Robinwood...
After a walk up the hill, about 3 miles, they even had time for a brief lunch stop!
Very hot and tired they got to the top but soon cooled down in the muddy obstacle course!
After cleaning up, it was time for some toptastic team building!
Here's to more fun tomorrow!
So what did we get up to?
At High Spen Primary we love to hear about the hobbies you have outside of the school day. As part of a recent questionnaire you told us which clubs you enjoy the most, where they are and what they cost.
This is EXCELLENT as we can now share the information with other children in our school and hopefully spread the word about the best clubs in our local area.
Open this link to see a complete list of all clubs recommended.
If you have more clubs to add or are happy for children to ask you more about a club you nominated... why not tell us by leaving a comment below!
Thanks to Mrs Burrell for putting all this information together.
Thank you to all those families who found time to complete and return the Family Survey.
Although there are a few questionnaires still trickling in, the message is clear...
You'd like to keep a paper newsletter!
The question of how often was very close, so for now we shall maintain the weekly newsletter and review again at the end of the term. To reduce waste we will now only be printing one newsletter per family. This will be sent home with the eldest child in each family.
Thank you,
Mr Firth

This week saw the selection of House Captains for 2011-2012. Lots of our Y6 children put themselves forward, but there are times in life where not all can win.
Well done to ALL who gave it a go!
Congratulations to the following successful House Captains:-
Ruler - Erin Melody & Sophie Rogers
Clinty - Grace Goodfellow & Oliver James
Towneley - Tiegan McDonald & Tara Bhandal
Tilley - Niall Pomeroy, Luke Wilson & James Christer

How exciting is this?
If it says it on the door, it must be true!
We are in for a fantastic year, one in which you will be asked to share your ideas about our school and your aspirations for the next chapter in its life!
One of the things we'll be doing is to revamp our website. We'd love it to be an extension of our school day where you can show friends and family at home what you've been up to.
Perhaps you've already got some ideas about what the website should offer?
Why not talk at home about what you would like to suggest and leave a comment underneath to let me and others see you fab ideas!
Come on, don't just sit there... get typing!
Mr Firth
