Online Safety top tips for families

Online safety

This area of our website houses all the tips and links which we share as 'bitesize bits' within our Websafe Wednesdays. Each month we share an online safety newsletter via email – these can be found at the bottom of this page too.

This link provides an overview of all that we cover in curriculum lessons. If you have any questions about any of the content listed, please come in to ask. Curriculum Coverage 25-26.

Being online is a fundamental part of children and young people’s lives. Social media, online games, websites and apps can be accessed through mobile phones, computers, laptops and tablets - all of which form a part of children and young people’s online world.

The internet and online technology provides new opportunities for young people’s learning and growth, but it can also expose them to new types of risks, so now more than ever, safeguarding our children during their time online is of paramount importance.

At High Spen Primary School we promote online safety at all times. Children are taught how the internet works and how to stay safe when they are in school. It is important that you as a parent are aware of the dangers of children being online and using the internet.

Top Tips:

  • Talk to your child about the sites they access; build an understanding of honesty and trust

  • Ensure that you can see or hear what your child is doing online at all times

  • use parental control facilities on any Wi-Fi enabled equipment that your child uses

  • NEVER allow your child to go to bed with Wi-Fi equipment on their own

The following two booklets offer really helpful advice when it comes to setting up parental controls:-

We have uploaded a range of 'Need to Know About' guides produced by the National College, for parents, carers and teachers. The TIKTOK image here is an example – but the downloads below are much better quality.
